Chapter History

Kappa Psi Sigma was chartered on October 28, 2008 by six Sorors: Soror Lawanna Barron, Soror Sharon Daniels, Soror Monique Harmon, Soror Jaketa Jolly, Soror Rozelle Slaymon, and Soror Joi Williams.

The Chapter has since expanded its purpose across nine South Georgia Counties: Atkinson, Ben Hill, Berrien, Cook, Grady, Lanier, Lowndes, Thomas, and Tift Counties.

KPS is a Sponsoring Alumni Chapter to the Lambda Beta Chapter at Valdosta State University, chartered on October 22, 1988, by the Zeta Psi Sigma Chapter, Albany, Georgia.

It is also a sponsoring Alumni Chapter to the Upsilon Kappa Chapter at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, chartered on April 16, 2022.

National History

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was organized on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Dulin Redford, Bessie M. Downey Martin and Cubena McClure. The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to Alpha chapter at Butler University. Soaring To Greater Heights Of Attainment Around The World, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., as a leading national service organization, has met the challenges of the day and continues to grow through Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service.
